Career Opportunities for Journeymen Electrician

The Electrician Contractors Association of San Diego (ECASD) has recently held a seminar for some of its new members, particularly the journeymen in their field. The ECASD says there are countless opportunities for journeymen and an even a lot more room for growth.

ECASD President James Jacobson assured their members that they will continue to support the growth and aspirations of their members and move to provide more opportunities for them through partnerships with other institutions. “Journeymen electricians have a lot in store for them. There are countless opportunities for regular employment, and their current career is a stepping stone to becoming a master electrician,” explains Jacobson. Affordable Electrician

In his opening remarks during the seminar, Jacobson also referred to a report published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In the said report, the BLS mentioned that there will be a steady demand for electricians in the coming years. “Employment of electricians is projected to grow 9 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Increases in construction spending and growing demand for alternative energy sources will drive demand for electricians. Alternative power generation, such as solar and wind, is an emerging field that should require more electricians for installation. Increasingly, electricians will be needed to link these alternative power sources to homes and power grids over the coming decade.” The rest of the report can be seen at the BLS official website here.

Journeymen electrician 101

Newspaper website Chron.com explained what a journeyman electrician does, and how it is different to other types of electricians.

“Becoming a journeyman electrician is the first step to earning the distinction of a master electrician. Serving as the main licensing qualification, a journeyman electrician requires a two-year degree or certificate in electrical courses or four years of intensive experience under the supervision of a master electrician. In addition to learning the technical or academic aspects of electrical work, a journeyman electrician must also undergo 8,000 hours of supervised practical experience and pass a licensing exam.”

Academic website Learn.org for its part shed light on what journeymen electricians do, and what their roles are in construction or on electrical installation tasks. Big List of Electrician Services http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electricians

“Journeyman electricians are electricians who have acquired the training and experience necessary to work independently, but who have not attained licensure as master electricians. Journeyman electricians may work with electrical wires, fixtures and control systems in commercial, industrial and residential buildings, but typically do not design the initial electrical system for a building, which is usually done by a master electrician.”
